The public How2Revise service uses first-party browser storage to remember an essential-only choice and an unfinished lesson. Optional Google Analytics is disabled in this release.

Current service boundary. Parent accounts, subordinate eligible pupil profiles, payments, subscriptions, real uploads and free-text AI are closed. The guided Biology practice accepts no file, checks any typed practice answer only in the open tab, makes no provider request and adds no cookie or local-storage item. There are no account, billing, advertising, AI-chat or pupil-profile cookies in the public no-login service. Optional analytics remains separately controlled below.

Manual and technique practice
The lesson player stores a content-free checkpoint under h2r:method: for your current profile or guest age band. It includes the method, step and practice outcomes, not typed answers or schoolwork. It can restore your place for two hours and is cleared when practice finishes, ends or the tab closes. If storage is unavailable, the lesson is usable in memory.
Free photo allowances are recorded securely with the parent account. Clearing cookies does not create another allowance. Photo lesson storage details.
Local storage · necessary preference

Purpose: remembers whether this browser chose essential storage only or allowed optional analytics, together with the choice date and notice version.
Contents: analytics yes/no, timestamp and version. It does not contain a name, schoolwork or advertising identifier.
Duration: 180 days, or until you change it, clear site data or a material storage change requires a fresh choice.

Local storage · requested feature
h2r-free-reset
Purpose: used by the earlier no-login Revision Reset to reopen at the current step on the same device.
Contents: chosen age-instruction band, material type, task route, revision need, time choice, taught/readiness and checking-source choices, short target, method-action confirmations, attempt/check/retry outcomes, up to three return questions, return window, current timer and step number, plus a random document coordination identifier and revision count used inside the coordinated save to reject a stale change. The Reset does not request an upload or subject answer, but this record contains whatever is typed in the target and question fields. Do not put an answer, name or private detail there.
Coordination: supported browsers serialize local draft reads and saves with an exclusive Web Lock. If that lock or browser storage is unavailable, persistence fails closed: the Reset remains usable in memory while the page stays open, but it does not load or write an unlocked, restorable draft.
Duration: available for 24 hours from creation. It is cleared at that deadline while How2Revise is running, or on the next How2Revise visit after a closed or suspended browser. Completion, the control above or browser settings remove it sooner.

Page-history state · necessary coordination
Reset reload coordination
Purpose: lets the current page distinguish its own reload from a different open page without taking ownership automatically.
Contents: the same random document coordination identifier used by the local draft. It contains no target, return question, answer, name or schoolwork.
Duration: the current page-history entry. How2Revise normally removes it when the reset completes, restarts, expires or is invalidated. It can remain with that history entry if the browser prevents the update or the page closes unexpectedly.
Provider: How2Revise. The value is not sent to us.
Inactive optional Google Analytics cookies
These cookies are not active in this release. They could appear only after a separately reviewed adult-only consent flow is released and a verified analytics identifier is configured. How2Revise disables advertising personalisation and Google Signals and does not send reset text, schoolwork or a pupil profile. Google’s official Analytics cookie reference describes the standard cookies.

What are cookies and local storage?
A cookie is a small value a website asks a browser to store and send with later requests. Local storage is another browser store; its values normally stay on the device and are not automatically attached to every request. UK rules cover both and also cover scripts, pixels and similar access technologies—not just files named “cookies”. The ICO explains these rules in its storage and access technologies guidance.
Browser controls and other websites
You can also remove site data through your browser’s privacy settings. Blocking all storage may stop an unfinished lesson or your privacy choice from being remembered. Links to another website are governed by that website’s own storage notice.
