Photo lessons: your information.
This explains the controlled photo-lesson test for an eligible 13–16 profile inside an approved adult-managed account. Public access and live payments are separate.
Photos and PDFs
Photos are converted and resized on your device. PDFs are opened locally so you can preview and select pages. Only the selected pages, rendered as images, can be sent after you confirm. The original PDF and unselected pages are not uploaded. Documents may contain up to 500 pages and be no larger than 30 MB; select up to 120 pages per chapter, subject to device memory and your allowance. Start with a short chapter on a phone.
What happens when I Confirm?
The checked photos are sent to OpenAI to read the page, prepare explanations and questions, and check the lesson against the source. Image metadata is removed. Instructions inside photographs are treated as source material, not commands to the app. Only use material you are allowed to study, without personal details or live assessments.
What happens when I Check answer?
Your answer and relevant lesson evidence are sent to the same provider for formative feedback. How2Revise does not save your typed answer to its database, filesystem or device chapter. AI can misunderstand both the source and your answer. Ask a teacher about disagreements; this is not an exam grade.
What is saved?
Raw photos and typed answers are processed temporarily on the server without being written to its database or filesystem. When the page-credit wallet is active, generated source excerpts, explanations and questions are encrypted on our server for up to 24 hours to recover an interrupted scan without charging twice, under the updated parent photo-lesson permission. Expired recovery copies cannot be opened and are removed by scheduled cleanup. Content-free page, payment and usage records support your credit balance and spending controls. Otherwise, extracted source text and generated explanations are temporary unless saved in your device library. They remain in the open browser tab until the session is ended, the tab is closed or it is refreshed. Provider retention rules below still apply.
The no-card photo lesson
When a parent explicitly activates the free photo lesson, its generated source excerpts, explanations and questions are encrypted on How2Revise’s server so the pupil can reopen the same lesson for seven days. Raw photos and typed answers are excluded. Access ends at the displayed expiry; the encrypted copy is removed by scheduled cleanup or the next access. Account controls can remove it earlier. A minimal allowance record, including activation, expiry, consent version and number of checks, remains with the account to prevent reuse. This is one page and up to 24 typed-answer checks per parent account, with no automatic renewal or payment. Failed generation does not use the page allowance. Deleting browser cookies does not reset it.
Server backups follow the account privacy retention schedule. An expired or deleted lesson cannot be reopened through the app. Free lessons do not use the optional 30-day device library.
Optional device library for full access
Saving a chapter is optional. If you choose it, prepared photographs, source text, explanations, questions and practice results are encrypted and stored in this browser under this pupil profile, using your separate passphrase. Raw typed answers are excluded. You can keep up to 12 chapters per pupil per browser. Saving again updates the current chapter and its progress. Titles and content are encrypted; save dates are visible in the chapter selector. We cannot recover a forgotten passphrase, and the chapter does not sync to other devices.
Saved chapters expire no later than 30 days after their lessons were generated. Expired chapters cannot be opened and are removed the next time the device library is accessed. Delete saved chapter removes the encrypted copy immediately. Clear this site’s browser data to remove all its device copies. Closing an unsaved tab loses the lesson.
Live AI tutor
The optional conversational tutor sends microphone audio and lesson evidence to OpenAI and generated tutor speech to LiveAvatar. It does not use your camera. This is different from browser dictation or read aloud. Read tutor privacy and choices.
Browser dictation and read aloud
These are optional browser features. Your browser or operating system may send speech to its own speech provider. You can type instead. Check and correct any transcription before pressing Check answer. How2Revise does not record or store audio.
Parent control
A parent must separately authorise photo lessons and answer feedback. They can withdraw scanning authorisation in Privacy settings; new provider requests will then be refused, and any saved free photo lesson is deleted with its free access ended. A saved chapter on a device must be deleted there separately.
Parent privacy controlsProvider information
- processing
- Your photo is sent securely to OpenAI only to create this test revision plan. How2Revise requests no response storage and does not keep the original photo after analysis.
- training
- OpenAI states that API data is not used to train its models by default unless the account opts in. How2Revise has not opted in.
- retention
- OpenAI may retain abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days and may retain flagged images for safety review. Do not upload personal, confidential or live-assessment material.
- rights
- A parent can delete the How2Revise account and saved plan. Provider safety or abuse-retention may continue for its stated period; contact privacy@how2revise.com.
Source highlights and a second AI check reduce some errors but do not guarantee factual accuracy or complete coverage. The app distinguishes practice today from recall on a later attempt.
